About 5 years ago I had a red lip obsession. I wouldn't go anywhere without my red lipstick, most often paired with bright red nails. A career in the restaurant industry ruined that fad for me for some time but since switching to work in the world wide web, I now find myself revisiting my love for red. I often don't have the time to do full makeup in the morning, so painting a well defined swatch of color on my countenance seems to make up for a rushed job. However, in my years of donning rouge, I have quickly come to find that there are only a couple affordable, reliable reds (especially if you plan on kissing!).
Here are a couple of my favs:
On a hot day, or a day where I'm looking for some serious color, I choose to forego the lipstick altogether and instead paint my red with pencil. Lately I've been using Covergirl Lip Perfection in Passion. This creates a much more defined, bright color. For best results, dry lips as best as possible, pencil as far into the inner lip as possible, and then apply chapstick. (I prefer Burts Bees in Pomegranite!) Because of the intense color of this lip, it becomes quite obvious when it starts to wear off, so be sure to bring a pocket mirror!
When I prefer a slightly more subtle but longer-lasting red, I turn to Revlon ColorStay Overtime Sheer in Coral. This product acts as more of a stain than a lipstick or gloss. I find that I can apply once and be set for hours! I would recommend, however, that you avoid the clear gloss. I've used it a couple of times and found myself wtih a goopy, gloppy mess. Instead, I apply the color, let dry, and put Burts Bees in Pomegranite over it. This is also... KISS PROOF! I have made out many a time to find my lips still looking perfectly red and my man remaining unscathed.
